MANILA—Gerry Abadiano's stint with San Juan will be short-lived as he is set to pack his bags for Ulsan ahead of the upcoming KBL season.

The Phoebus announced on Wednesday that the former UP Fighting Maroon will join them as the new season begins in October.

Abadiano will replace Jake Figueroa, who has since joined Abra in the MPBL, as Ulsan's Asian player quota.

A former seven-time champion, the Phoebus struggled last season, only going 18-36 for the year in which they had to bring in Figueroa following Migs Oczon's season-ending shoulder injury.

Abadiano's arrival gives Ulsan another solid point guard to set their offense, following the heroics of Oczon and RJ Abarrientos in the past few seasons.

The question is whether Abadiano will still see action for the Knights until he gets called up to the Phoebus' training camp.

The 5-foot-11 point guard leads San Juan in scoring with 9.6 points on 46.2 percent field goals, 40.8 percent three-point shooting, and 85 percent free throws alongside 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in 14 matches.

The Knights are tied with the Weavers for the best record in the MPBL at 13-1, but the former will play the GenSan Warriors, the best team in the South Division right now, on Thursday night at the STRIKE Gym in Bacoor in what could be a potential national finals preview.

San Juan will also play Meycauayan Marilao, Valenzuela, and Quezon in a tough late July stretch that could be a barometer of whether the team is a legit contender or not.
