BIÑAN—Abra obliterated Valenzuela with a 106-70 win to continue its hot MPBL run on Saturday at the Alonte Sports Arena.
The Weavers quickly dismantled the Darkhorse with a 33-11 first quarter, and despite the latter somehow slowing the former in scoring in the second quarter, Abra bounced back with a 29-11 third period to pull away.
Encho Serrano led Abra, now on an 18-game winning streak to remain on top of the North Division standings at 20-1, with 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting, one rebound, and two assists.
Mike Ayonayon added 15 points on 6-for-9 field goals, including 3-for-5 from deep, three rebounds, six assists, one steal, and one block off the bench.
Angelo Obuyes made 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists for Valenzuela, which fell to 9-14.
Meanwhile, Rizal overcame an Ilagan comeback for a 77-72 win.
Up by as much as 17 points, the Golden Coolers found themselves staring at a two-point lead, 71-69, with 1:29 left after the Cowboys mounted a comeback.
However, back-to-back baskets from Jolo Mendoza, a three-pointer and a layup, shut the door on Ilagan's last gasp.
Mendoza led Rizal, which boosted its bid for an outright playoff spot after moving up to 14-7, with 13 points, two rebounds, one assist, and two steals.
Mark Yee and Joel Lee Yu each added 11 markers, while Billy Robles contributed 10 points, 13 boards, one dime, and one interception.
Arth Dela Cruz had 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two steals for Ilagan, which dropped to 13-9, just one game ahead of Meycauayan Marilao and Pasay for fourth place in the North.
