QUEZON CITY—Carlos Yulo said on Friday that he is hoping for a repeat of a historic double performance with his younger brother Eldrew in the Asian Games.

Playing together in the same tournament for only the second time ever at the senior level, the Yulos will banner the Philippines' gymnastics squad to the quadrennial meet in Nagoya next month.

Carlos and Eldrew made waves during the Asian Men's Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Zunyi, China last June, going 1-3 in Kuya Caloy's pet discipline, the floor exercise.

The elder Yulo hopes it will be the same or even better once they join the Asian Games, where they are expecting most, if not all, of the same participants from the continental championship.

"I'm really excited, and hopefully, makauwi talaga ng medal not just for us but for the Philippines," Carlos Yulo said when he graced the opening night of MPL Philippines Season 18 at the Victoria Sports Tower.

Already achieving something in his senior debut, Eldrew hopes not just for a similar finish but also for an opportunity to learn from some of the best in the game in his next venture in the pro ranks.

"I'm super excited kasi I know that I will learn a lot from them because they are veterans. They know what they want, how to move, and what kind of mindset to have when it comes to competition. So maybe I'm looking forward to the lessons from them and the training that I will adopt from them," said the younger Yulo, who was also in attendance during the season opener.

While Kuya Caloy wants to see him and his younger brother back on the podium, Eldrew's goal is just to bring his A-game to Nagoya.

"My goal is just to give my best since it's my first time as a senior, so maybe it's going to be my turning point as a gymnast. I will realize a lot of things that I don't realize pa. Parang I still need more; I need to strive more. Siguro I'm expecting my best from them," the younger Yulo further said.

Both Yulos will enter a two-week training camp in Japan, giving them an opportunity to acclimatize to the weather before flying to Nagoya.
