PASIG—Perpetual Help kept San Sebastian winless in Group B of the NCAA Season 102 men’s basketball tournament 86-74 at PhilSports Arena on Monday night.
The Altas followed up on their win over Emilio Aguinaldo College to improve to a 2-1 record while the Golden Stags remained without a win after three games.
“We focused on our defense kasi Baste was shooting really good kanina,” LA Casinillo said after dropping 15 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals in the win.
“All we had to do was step up on defense and luckily nag-follow up 'yong offense namin.”
The Stags led Perpetual Help by one late in the payoff period, 70-69, when Jim Corpuz and Juan Tulabut sank back-to-back buckets to put the Altas up by three, 73-70, with 3:56 remaining.
Arwin Alforque managed to keep Baste alive with a layup at the 3:40 mark of the quarter to cut their deficit to one, 73-72.
The Altas, however, vented their ire on the Stags with a game-deciding 11-0 run capped off by a Rey Maglupay short stab to seal the deal, 84-72, with 1:04 left in the game.
Tulabut top-scored for Perps with 18 points while Mark Gojo Cruz registered 12 markers, six assists, and five rebounds. Angelo Gelsano also chipped in 10 points in the dub.
Niel Castor tallied 17 points for San Sebastian in the loss. Alforque and Matt Acosta also turned in 12 and 11 markers, respectively, in the defeat.
