QUEZON CITY—Team Liquid Philippines moved closer to a Day 1 bye in the MPL Philippines Playoffs by sending Twisted Minds Philippines to the brink of a winless Season 18 with a 2-0 win in a rare Thursday night showdown at the Victoria Sports Tower.
Despite a brilliant performance from Benedict "Bennyqt" Gonzales in Game 1 and AJ "Kayn" Sombilon in Game 2, Liquid PH showed its poise, especially in the late game, to contain Twisted Minds PH.
The win moved Liquid PH, which now won back-to-back matches in its post-Asian Games grind, up to 10-2, dashing any hope for Aurora Gaming Philippines to steal a Top 2 spot.
The result also put pressure on Onic Philippines to sweep TNC later Thursday to still have a shot at securing that Day 1 bye as action moves to the PhilSports Arena in Pasig for the playoffs.
Twisted Minds PH, on the other hand, fell to 0-13 and must need to beat Aurora Gaming PH on Sunday night to avoid being the first team in two years to be completely shut out this season.
