MANILA—In an uncommon time when two local teammates dropped 30 points each in a game of an import-spiced PBA conference, Schonny Winston and Robert Bolick joined forces to lead NLEX to a 124-117 win against Phoenix in Game 2 of the PBA Governors' Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday night at the Ynares Center 1 in Antipolo.
With the other Road Warrior locals relatively quiet, Winston and Bolick took over, each scoring 31 points with three triples.
They then turned to their defense in the second half, holding the Fuel Masters, who erupted for 72 points in the first half, to just 45 the rest of the way.
Winston finished 11-for-15 from the field, while Bolick went 7-for-14 for an efficient explosion to lead NLEX, which is now 2-0 ahead of Phoenix in the best-of-five crossover playoffs.
Deonte Burton added 24 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and two steals as the Road Warriors can sweep the series on Saturday night at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Marcellus Earlington put up 22 points on 10-for-19 field goals, nine rebounds, three assists, one steal, and three blocks to lead the Fuel Masters.
Ricci Rivero and Kai Ballungay added 21 markers each as the game also featured another not-so-common PBA moment where three players each from both teams scored 20 or more.
