BIÑAN—Quezon clinched the first spot in the MPBL South Division finals after whipping Cebu 83-55 in Game 2 of the division semis on Tuesday night at the Alonte Sports Arena.
The Huskers delivered the knockout blow on the Greats in the second half, holding them to just 17 points, four in the final period, after trailing 35-38 at halftime.
Adding to Cebu's woes, veteran leader Dhon Reverente was thrown out of the game after entangling with returning rookie big man Ced Manzano late in the contest, and the outcome was virtually settled already.
Judel Fuentes led Quezon, back in the national semifinals for the third consecutive year, with 20 points on an 8-for-15 shooting and three rebounds.
Chris Pagaran added 16 points on 5-for-9 field goals, including 3-for-4 from three-point range, three rebounds, one assist, and one block.
Elmer Echavez had nine points, two rebounds, and one assist to lead Cebu, whose season full of promise, including huge wins against Quezon and Cebu during the regular season, came to a close.
