MANILA--San Beda went 2-0 in Day 1 of the 14th staging of Ang Liga at the San Beda Football Field on Saturday.
The Red Booters' Team A handed the UB Brahmans a rude Division 1 welcome with a 4-0 win, while their Team B staved off a late push by the UP Fighting Maroons' own Team B in Division 2 play to walked with the 3-2 victory in earlier action.
Estephen Abriol opened the scoring for San Beda-A in the 22nd minute before James Eje made it 2-0 in the 28th.
San Beda-A completed the shutout of UB with two more goals courtesy of Franco Dela Torre and Aljo Zabala.
San Beda-B, on the other hand, appeared to be heading to a similar result after goals from Ronan Roxas, Christopher Villanueva, and Jimar Castillo put them up against UP-B, 3-0, at the half.
But UP-B made a second half surge as Daniel Abraham and Migui Blanco made the game interesting with their goals. The comeback bid fell short for UP-B in the end.
UP-B's loss to San Beda-B actually thwarted UP's own bid for a sweep of their opening day assignments as UP-A blanked Lyceum, 3-0, in the curtain raiser.
In the other scheduled Division 1 match, Kintaro Miyagi netted a brace in just two minutes to put UP-A ahead, 2-0, entering halftime before JB Borlongan sealed the deal with his second half strike.
