Ateneo sends PCCL semis vs San Beda to Game 3

By Sherlyn Paleg

PASIG CITY -- Playing without key players Ange Kouame, Raffy Verano, Will Navarro, Gian Mamuyac and the Nieto brothers was not a hindrance for the Ateneo Blue Eagles to get a 74-62 victory over the San Beda Red Lions in Game 2 of their best-of-three PCCL President's Cup semifinal series, Thursday night at the Ynares Sports Arena.

Only Adrian Wong, RV Berjay, Tyler Tio, Jason Credo and Isaac Go suited up for the Blue Eagles in the first quarter.

Thirdy Ravena, SJ Belangel, Jolo Mendoza and BJ Andrade arrived before the first canto ended and joined them in the second quarter.

San Beda, on the other hand, still showed strong defense and offense from James Canlas and Clint Doliguez as it battled back to cut the lead to 4 points with just 7 minutes left

But Go, Tio, and Wong fired treys to stretch Ateneo's lead to 13, 63-50.

Go blasted for 28 points on 7-of-12 shooting from long range and completed a double-double with 10 rebounds for Player of the Game honors.

Tio helped Go by rendering 18 points, five assists and a steal.

Canlas dropped 24 points on 8-of-14 field goals, while Doliguez contributed 14 points and a steal.

With the series now tied, 1-1, a deciding third game will take place on Saturday back at the Ynares Sports Arena with the winner facing the University of Visayas on Monday in the national final.
