MANILA—Reigning WBO bantamweight champion John Riel Casimero could not help but be puzzled as to why even some of his fellow countrymen are leaning to root for Japanese star Naoya Inoue should their highly anticipated showdown finally goes on.

"Ang daming mga basher—kahit mga Pinoy—na doon kampi kay Naoya. Naguguluhan ako sa kanya," Casimero said on Tuesday during the online Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum.

Casimero was fresh from defending his belt against Duke Micah on Sunday (Philippine Time) in Uncasville, Connecticut.

However, in the post-fight press conference right after the bout, Casimero hurled some choice words at Inoue.

Casimero's action did not sit well to some fans.

However, he said that despite his tone in the said presser, he represented the Philippines well in his previous match.

"Yung laban ko, para sa bayan. Para sa ating lahat. Kaya binuhos ko talaga yung lakas ng loob sa ensayo para manalo," he further said.
