MANILA--The Zamboanga siblings hope that the COVID-19 pandemic will be further contained as time passes by for them to return to the Philippines.

''The plan is to go back to the Philippines before December to celebrate Christmas with our family and to continue training with our boxing coach there. We can’t wait to spend time with our family, maybe go on a little vacation," said older brother Drex on Monday.

He then admitted that they are missing their home country a lot especially that the pandemic forced them to stay in Bangkok longer than expected.

“It has been hard being away from home.... I miss my mom’s cooking, especially paksiw na bangus and nilagang baka. I miss riding my motorcycle,” added Zamboanga, who further said that they are working to get long term visas for them to continue training in Thailand.

However, he said too that he is turning the situation into something positive.

"I used that sadness to motivate me to continue training here in Thailand," Zamboanga quipped. "Me and my sister dream of becoming world champions. This has fueled our drive to continue working hard."

Zamboanga, one of the latest One Championship signings, made a successful debut in the said promotion after submitting Detchadin Sornsirisuphathin at One: A New Breed 1 on Aug. 28 at the Impact Arena in the Thai capital.

Drex's younger sister, One women's atomweight title contender Denice, made quick work of Watsysinya Kaewkhong later in the night to complete a sweep for the Zamboanga siblings.

“We’re all doing great here.... It’s almost time to get back to our daily training routine. Time to get back to work,” said Drex Zamboanga on their current state in Bangkok.
