PASIG--Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes allayed fears that Kai Sotto's back injury could sideline him for the FIBA World Cup.
According to Reyes, Sotto's representative, Tony Ronzone, told him that the injury the seven-foot-three center suffered during Orlando's NBA Summer League game against Boston on Sunday (Philippine Time) was not as bad as many thought.
"He said that all the X-rays came back negative, so that’s good news," Reyes said during Gilas' practice on Monday night at the Meralco Gym.
Sotto is expected to return home on Tuesday as Reyes reiterated on Monday, but it does not necessarily mean he will jump straight to at least observe Gilas' Tuesday training.
“Whether he comes to practice or not, di ko alam,” Reyes further said.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas will make an official statement soon on Sotto's status according to Gilas manager Butch Antonio.
