MANILA--TNT scored a major boost in its quest to complete some unfinished business after signing free agent Kevin Ferrer.
The Tropang 5G announced on Monday that they have signed the sweet-shooting forward to a one-year deal ahead of the PBA's 50th season starting on Oct. 5.
TNT pounced on the opportunity after Terrafirma opted not to re-sign the former University of Santo Tomas star amid its uncertain offseason.
Ferrer now finds himself being coached again by his former Gilas Pilipinas mentor Chot Reyes, even as he reunites with national team comrade RR Pogoy at the Tropang 5G, who are looking to finally complete the elusive grand slam after falling two wins short last season.
Ferrer is expected to share minutes with starting small forward Calvin Oftana, whose ankle injury slowed him down late into last season's PBA Philippine Cup and even during Gilas' FIBA Asia Cup campaign.
Meanwhile, TNT also locked up Mike Nieto for one more year for additional depth in the squad.
Nieto joined the Tropang 5G midway through the Philippine Cup after the Converge FiberXers opted to let him go.
Nieto is expected to back up Pogoy at the shooting guard spot for TNT.
