QUEZON CITY—Despite missing out on a chance to move up the rankings at the regular season's end, Aurora Gaming Philippines denied Twisted Minds Philippines one last chance to end its campaign in MPL Philippines Season 18 with a win after taking a 2-1 victory on Sunday night at the Victoria Sports Tower.
Aurora PH got an opportunity to steal the third seed from Onic Philippines after the latter was given a bad beat by Team Liquid Philippines two nights ago.
However, Aurora PH lost steam late into Game 1 as Twisted Minds PH pulled off a comeback to take the series opener, with the fans suddenly entertaining the thought of seeing them finally win one match.
Aurora PH recovered and took Game 2 to force the decider, and the club recovered from Twisted Minds' early Game 3 blitz to complete the reverse sweep.
Aurora PH finished tied with Onic PH at 9-5 with a plus-7 game difference, but Onic stays third due to its 3-2 head-to-head game difference.
Onic PH will play sixth-seeded TNC, while fourth-seeded Aurora PH will battle fifth-seeded Smart Omega in the first round of the playoffs on Oct. 21 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
Twisted Minds PH, on the other hand, went home winless in 14 matches with only three game wins, the worst performance by any team in the premier esports league's history.
